The Takaro Sports Club was formed in 1973 and was formally known as the Takaro Bowling and Croquet Club. At that time the Takaro Bowling and Croquet Club also had a number of other Sections including Table Tennis, Indoor Bowls, Tennis, and Soccer. It was felt that under the umbrella of a separate body it would be easier to control the finances of the Sections as each section was doing it’s own purchases etc.

It took a massive effort to form the new Sports Club as new constitution and rules had to be introduced as well as registering it as a Corporate Body.
The Takaro Sports Club owns and is in charge of all the assets and Liabilities of its sections. The affiliates administer their own finances and pay a reasonable fee to the Sports Club.

The Takaro Sports Club Board consists of 3 members which are elected at the A.G.M. these are Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. As well each section and affiliate have their President or Representative as Board members. The Board meets monthly except for January.

Takaro Sports Club opened an extension to their Clubrooms last year. The extension provides a modernized lounge area and also enough floor area for City Club 2000 to expand from 3 pool tables to 6 pool and a full size snooker table. These tables are now permanently placed, prior to the extension the pool tables were moved in when needed. City Club 2000 is an affiliate of the Takaro Sports Club. Along with the new extension the existing clubroom has been upgraded and future facility upgrades are planned.
Housie and cards are also played once a week during the week and these are popular amongst those who enjoy a friendly afternoon outing.
The club also has a social membership available for those members who wish to take advantage of the facilities.
